Tips for a Great Summer; The Moms Summer Plan

The Moms Summer Plan

Summers are great;  no schedules, no commitments, no running around like chaos, I KNOW! BUT.... having a plan keeps the family out of the house on a beautiful day, kids off the couch, the television off, arguments to a minimum, no "I'm bored" is spoken  and everyone has  fun staying "UNPLUGGED"!

Last summer, my 4 kids and I, together planned one fun activity each day,  (or before or after work) with keeping a day or two free for catch up or some R&R at home.  No matter how big or small, we made it a point to do one fun family activity together.  Believe it or not, the laundry would still be there whether I made it first priority or last, the floors would still need cleaning and bills still got paid.

My point is, your children will remember HOW you spent time with them so enjoy your summer with your children!  Even if it is an every- Friday- tradition after work activity, or an every- Wednesday- night- Jazz- In- The- Park evening together, or reading some fun books on a rainy day with one another.  Make it a summer to remember.  Here's how you get started:

1. MAKE A SUMMER BUCKET LIST TOGETHER.  List everything you'd like to do as a family.  Mark the indoor items as a rainy day activity for back-up!  Don't forget to add some favorite books to get some summer reading in!

2. COUPONS & DISCOUNT DAYS!  Look online for coupons or special family/kids days that offer discounts if you go at a specified time or day. (see links below)

3. SCHEDULE IT!  Put it on the calendar and make it happen!  It gives everyone something to look forward to and it gets checked off the bucket list when done! (ok Mom, put in some "mom only" time too! V.I.P. to make a date with YOU!)

4. KEEP A FAMILY JOURNAL on your kitchen counter for everyone to write a few things in each day or paste pictures in for a  "Summer to Remember"...  What a great book to keep for years to come!

I hope these suggestions below can help you plan a simple & fun summer calendar.  Summer may have just started but before you know it, school is here and the busy life begins all over again! Enjoy and Comment Below on your summer fun!

1. Check out when your local church festivals are to enjoy.
2. When are the Holiday Parades in your town?
3. Community outdoor concerts; jazz in the park, chill on the hill, etc?
4. Local baseball games, minor or major leagues.  Either league usually hosts a kids family day! We will never forget Jay Bruce , then in the minor leagues, taking the time to meet, autograph, take pictures and talk with our 4 yr. old!  A moment to remember!
5. Check out your YMCA Play In The Park Dates; they have family activities at different parks in the community.
6. Neighborhood Mini Golf; each family makes a golf challenge and you hop yard to yard putting at each hole.  Afterwards, celebrate with a bonfire and beverages or a dish every family brings to share.  or... just go mini-golfing!
7. Color Runs or 5k's;  Great to run together or cheer others on! Find out when an event is near your area and make it a goal to work towards during the summer!
8. Participate in your local Bike Rodeo.
9. Make a tent outside or inside on a rainy day with blankets or anything else your kids could think of.
10. Camp out in your back yard!
11. Go to the beach and make the biggest sand castle together!  (It takes me longer to get the family ready to go to the beach and sand clean up after than the time we actually spend there!  But it's worth every minute of it when you hear your kids telling you how much fun they had!)
12. Visit your local zoo or museum.
13. Visit the farmers market and pick out some fresh veggies and fruit to enjoy.
14. Visit your outdoor water park or splash park.
15. Find when the county fairs or special festivals are going on.
16. Sign up at the library for special summer programs, some give away free books!
17. Get some canvases  & paints at the store and let the kids create their own masterpiece!
18. Plant a mini garden together.
19. Go to the outdoor movies at night with some snacks and drinks to enjoy.
20. Enjoy Roller skating or Bowling together!
