The Moms Birthday

What does a busy Mom want on her birthday?

Well, some would say a cozy night at home, some would say a nice dinner out with the hubby, some cocktails with some friends, maybe a shiny expensive gift...or two...maybe... ok, a handmade gift given with 100% love is enough to warm my heart any time.  Maybe a day at the spa to sit and relax with a nice massage, a pedicure? a delicious warm cup of tea with the time to enjoy it?  Maybe just to cozy up by the fire with a good book and have absolutely no distractions for the afternoon?  Maybe, just maybe, a chocolate "connie-tini" with some girlfriends and a night on the town to show off some old dance moves.  Whatever it may be that us moms desire to have on our birthday, I find it simpler to recap what we "don't" want to have on our birthday...

1. Don't wake me up... let me sleep in with complete silence, no noise, not. one. peep.
2. Don't ask me what's for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
3. Don't ask me for anything. Period.
4. #3 includes, asking where your clothes are, what's wrong, where do you want to eat, what do you want to do for your day, anything that expects me to think or move, don't ask.
5. A new dishwasher, as much as loved, does not count as a shiny expensive birthday gift "for me".
6. New silver tennis shoes, does not count as a shiny expensive birthday gift; they were on sale anyway. (However, I do love them, just not two years in a row.)
7. Don't leave any evidence of the handmade birthday gift you have given me.  This translates to if you make it, clean up the mess yourself.  I'll love the gift for sure, but I will not love the mess I have to clean up after.
8. In fact, don't leave any messes anywhere in the house that I will have to clean up.
9. Don't leave any dishes in the sink, none, zilch, not even a fork for me to wash.
10. Don't think I'm mean, and don't judge,  I just want one simple day off of being a maid, referee, chauffeur, cook, etc. and want one day to be a kid all over again with no rules, no responsibilities, no rushing to be on time anywhere and to just hang out, play, and have fun with my kids.

Then tomorrow, I'll be Mom again.  With more love and joy than ever, I'll get up early, feed my little angels, answer any questions of where is what, appreciate all the gifts of hugs and kisses, and drive, referee and give my cooking another shot.  Maybe I'll even take a shower "for myself".  Then, eventually, get all caught up on the messy house because I took the day off yesterday to celebrate my birthday and had the best day ever just being a kid with my kids.

Happy Birthday Moms!
